March 11th - Mountain Music & Medicine Show at the Buisson Arts Center in Dahlonega (across from the Smith House on South Chestatee St. in Dahlonega), It will also be broadcast on the air-waves via WUGA in Athens. Musical guests include The Pea Ridge Ramblers (old time), Mulligan Stew (celtic), and Mist on the Mountain (bluegrass and gospel), as well as Doc Johnson & the usual cast of characters. You can be a part of the live audience. All shows begin at 8pm. The doors open at 7pm and the pre-show entertainment starts at 7:30. General admission tickets are $10, reserved seats are$15. Monday March 13, The Hoot The Athens Folk Music and Dance Society Present a special "Pick-up Picking Party" hosted by the traditional old time band String Theory. There will be a whole array of fiddles, banjos, harmonicas, mandolins and guitars on stage and plenty of singing and audience participation! March 18th - The Claire Lynch Band with Peachtree Station - Bluegrass Concert Series at the Oxford Civic Center in Oxford, Alabama. Claire Lynch and her band - featuring Jim Hurst, Missy Raines, and David Harvey put on a wonderful show. Oxford is about one hour west of Atlanta - right off I-20. This should be a great show. April 1st - The 30th Annual WRFG Peachblossom Bluegrass Festival will be held at the State Farmer?s Market in Forest Park Ga. From 11-am until 10pm. This is an annual fund-raiser for community radio WRFG-Atlanta. The Festival will feature Jimmy Ibbotson, lead singer and song-writer from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band as well as Blue Moon Rising, a great new up and coming band. April 21st - "Goin' Cross the Mountain: the Music of the Southern Mountains." presented by Americana Retreats. An Americana Retreat featuring Sheila Kay Adams. On April 21, 2006, we're not goin' over the mountain. We're not comin' down from the mountain. We're goin' to the very top of The Mountain (near Highlands, NC) for three days and two nights of total immersion in Southern Appalachian mountain music. A small group of folks (no more than 50) will join Sheila Kay Adams (technical advisor and voice coach for the movie "Songcatcher"), Sheila's husband Jim Taylor (an authority on the music of the Civil War era) and musicologist/performer Laura Boosinger to explore the subject in depth ? and make a lot of good music along the way. Lots of opportunities for jammin', but you don't have to be a musician to get a lot out of this event.
April 21-23 - 10th Annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival featuring bluegrass and old-time music and authentic mountain crafts market.
